Provider Appreciation Day was held on March 4.  What a wonderful time
had by all!  The day began with networking and breakfast.  Spyro’s bagels
donated bagels for breakfast again this year.  If you have a chance stop by
Spyro’s in Lusby to thank Stella for her generosity.

We also had a chance to visit with the vendors – Books Are Fun, StoryTime
Felts, and Edward Jones investments were there to name a few.

There were free gifts, a raffle, and toy exchange so no one walked away
empty handed.  Many preschool programs were on display for providers to
browse.

There were several classes offered throughout the day.  Starting with Susan
Copsey, Regional Manager for the Office of Child Care, who opened the
floor for provider questions.  Current trends in childcare along with
regulatory guidelines were discussed.  Next, two of the association’s
providers, Jill Buck and Susie Dembrow, stepped up to the plate to give an
informative class on disaster preparedness and emergency planning.
Following them, Lisa Merriman from Calvert County public schools taught
about using visual aides to help communicate with children who have limited
verbal skills.  Lastly, Bonnie Drayer gave a hilarious presentation on ways to
improve our business skills.  Then providers shared their own policy
handbooks and contracts with everyone.

In between classes we had lunch.  Along with more networking and
shopping.  Christine McDanal from Story Time Felts said she sold more at
Daycare Appreciation Day than she did at the Childcare Conference in
Ocean City!!  Hand it to Calvert County – we outdo everyone no matter
what it is we are doing – including outshop!

If you missed out this year, be sure not to next year.  You don’t want to miss
out on doing an embarrassing dance among your fellow providers – this year
it was the chicken dance – courtesy of the dancing chicken from the toy
exchange table.  So see you all next year with your dancing shoes on.
